ADMISSION to the UNIVERSITY

ADMISSION to the SCHOOL of ARCHITECTURE'S PROGRAMS

  • Architectural Studies
  • Fashion Design & Merchandising
  • Interior Design

Architecture

Individuals wishing to apply to the BSAS degree program simply indicate that choice on the university application. An applicant must meet Enrollment Management Criteria (below) in order to be considered for admission into the Architectural Studies major.  Freshmen applicants will be evaluated on a combination of ACT score and high school class rank.  Transfer and change-of-major applicants will be evaluated on grade point average.  Depending on space availability, individuals who have an application on file and satisfy the Enrollment Management Criteria will be contacted by mail and offered an opportunity to register for classes, which will reserve a space in the Architectural Studies major.  As the Enrollment Management Criteria changes, the applications will automatically be reevaluated.  When the Architectural Studies major has reached capacity, applicants who remain in the Architectural Studies Applicant Pool will be notified and informed of alternative options.  Applicants who do not meet the minimum Enrollment Management Criteria will be notified as soon as the New Student Application is recieved and will be informed of alternative options.

The minimum Enrollment Management Criteria prior to March 1, 2009:

  Composite ACT Class Rank
Freshmen Applicants 25 or above Upper 75%
  23 or 24 Upper 50%
  21 or 22 Upper 25%
     
Transfers and Change-of-Majors A grade point average of 3.0 or above with a minimum of 26 semester hours completed for transfers and 12 semester hours completed for change-of-majors.
 

The minimum Enrollment Management Criteria after March 1, 2009:

  Composite ACT Class Rank
Freshmen Applicants 23 or above Upper 75%
  21 or 22 Upper 50%
     
Transfers and Change-of-Majors A grade point average of 2.6 or above with a minimum of 26 semester hours completed for transfers and 12 semester hours completed for change-of-majors.
 

The process for admission for new freshmen and transfer students is:  1) Complete an application for admission into the university with a major in Architectural Studies.  2)  If you meet SIUC admission requirements you will be placed into the Architectural Studies Applicant Pool with a major classification of ARAP (Architectural Studies Applicant).  3)  Complete and submit a New Student Application form for Architectural Studies.  4)  If you meet the Enrollment Management Criteria outlined above prior to the program reaching capacity, you will be notified by mail and given instructions for completing the advisement and registration process. 

The process for admission for change-of-major students is:  1)  Contact our Academic Advisor, Ms. Kim Taylor, at 453-3734.   2)  Complete and submit the New Student Application form for Architectural Studies. 

Fashion Design & Merchandising

Individuals wishing to apply to the BS degree program in Fashion Design & Merchandising simply indicate that choice on the university application. An applicant must meet Enrollment Management Criteria (below) in order to be considered for admission into the major.  Freshmen applicants will be evaluated on a combination of ACT score and high school class rank.  Transfer and change-of-major applicants will be evaluated on grade point average.  Depending on space availability, individuals who have an application on file and satisfy the Enrollment Management Criteria will be contacted by mail and offered an opportunity to register for classes, which will reserve a space in the Fashion Design and Merchandising major.  As the Enrollment Management Criteria changes, the applications will automatically be reevaluated.  When the Fashion Design and Merchandising major has reached capacity, applicants who remain in the Fashion Design and Merchandising Applicant Pool will be notified and informed of alternative options.  Applicants who do not meet the minimum Enrollment Management Criteria will be notified as soon as the New Student Application is recieved and will be informed of alternative options.
